The North-South Corridor (NSC), currently under construction, is a 21.5-kilometer stretch of an underground expressway in Singapore connecting the Marina Bay area in the south and the Woodlands area in the northernmost part of the city. The NSC project is part of the Singaporean government’s continued efforts to expand infrastructure.

Despite not being the lowest bidder, Ssangyong E&C was ed as a contractor based on absolute trust from the client, which the company earned by successfully delivering the Marina Coastal Expressway Section 482 and the Downtown Line (DTL) Section 921. A joint venture between Ssangyong E&C (85%) and the Singaporean company Wai Fong (15%) won the design and build contract for Section N102 of the NSC.

Ssangyong E&C is the sole design and build contractor for Section N111. Since an aboveground MRT line is currently in operation and its foundation is interfering with this underground expressway section, the underpinning construction method is being applied to sever the foundation. At the same time, for the construction of a 1.11-kilometer stretch of an elevated road, the free cantilever method has been implemented using some 1,000 pre segments. Since the site is located near residential homes and condominiums, the project requires smooth handling of resident complaints as well as thorough safety management, particularly concerning construction work at significant heights.
